I firmly believe that Dougie is one of the best draftsmen working in comics. He brings a sense of realism to his characters that is clearly influenced by his training as a classical artist. He is just very, very good at rendering his imagination in pencil. His characters have a weight and personality to them that is hard for any of his contemporaries to match. Additionally, the storytelling and ‘acting’ of his characters is just emphasized enough to be super heroic, without delving too deeply into the cartooning aspects of comic book artwork. Cartooning is very, very difficult for a variety of reasons, but Dougie is not a cartoonist. Dougie is a classical artist that is EXCELLENT at portraying the human form in motion. His characters move and act like real people, albeit ones exaggerated with characters and garish costumes. That exaggeration is a very, very fine line to walk, and Dougie is one of the best in the business because of his ability to walk that line with seemingly no effort.
